Litter Robot 4 Drawer Full Indicator DFI Sensors (2024)

IMPORTANT
  1. Make sure your unit is plugged in.
  2. Make sure your unit is connected and online.
  3. Make sure your firmware is up-to-date. If the app does not give you the option to update, you have the latest version.

Preparation

Litter-Robot 4 is equipped with OmniSense™ detection that utilizes laser and weight sensor technology to provide real-time litter and waste drawer levels. OmniSense™ also supports the SafeCat system which continuously analyzes four safety zones to ensure your cat is always safe.

There are three sensors located in the top of the bezel, called curtain sensors, that accurately measure the capacity of the waste drawer. During each Clean cycle, the DFI sensors will measure the level of waste within the waste drawer as the waste port passes over the waste drawer.

Once a full waste drawer is detected, the unit will indicate it is full with a flashing blue light bar.

You will also receive a notification on your phone if you use the Whisker app.

The unit will cycle two additional times before it will no longer automatically cycle.

If your unit displays a flashing blue light bar, this indicates that the waste drawer needs to be emptied.

Emptying the waste drawer when indicated is important to ensure that your Litter-Robot continues to cycle automatically.

Successful: If your unit returned home and displays a blue light bar, you've been successful.

Unsuccessful: If you are still seeing aflashing blue light barafter resetting at the Home position, or cannot complete the cycle, please follow these troubleshooting steps.

Troubleshooting

Stretched bags or bags not pressed flat will cause the OmniSense™ detection to inaccurately measure the waste drawer level.

Clear bags work best. Please note that waste level readings may be inaccurate when using a dark bag, especially when the drawer is empty. As clumps start to collect in the drawer, the readings will become more accurate. For the most precise waste drawer readings and a seamless experience, we highly recommend using Litter-Robot Waste Drawer Liners.

  1. Ensure the bag is pushed flat against the side walls and bottom of the drawer.

FAQs

Why does my Litter-Robot keep saying the drawer is full? ›

Check for obstructions blocking the drawer full indicator (DFI) sensors. There are two sensors inside the base, above where the waste drawer would sit. Debris, such as dust or cat fur, can interfere with the DFI sensor. This can cause the unit to inaccurately trigger a drawer-full indication.

Where are the DFI sensors on Litter Robot 4? ›

There are three laser sensors located in the top of the bezel, called curtain sensors, that accurately measure the capacity of the waste drawer. During each Clean cycle, the DFI sensor will measure the level of waste within the waste drawer as the waste port passes over the waste drawer.

How to clean Litter-Robot dfi sensor? ›

Debris, such as dust or cat fur, can interfere with the operation of these sensors. This can cause the unit to inaccurately measure the waste drawer level and litter level, as well as falsely detecting a cat. Wipe the bezel area where the sensors are located with a dry clean cloth to remove debris such as hair or dust.

How do you fix a Litter-Robot cat sensor fault? ›

Check for obstructions that might prevent the cat sensor from functioning.
  1. Make sure Litter-Robot is on a firm, level surface.
  2. The cat sensor function can be affected if the unit is on carpeting or a litter mat.
  3. Check that there are no power cords running underneath the base of the robot that might obstruct movement.

How do I update Litter-Robot 4? ›

Tap on the Settings gear in the top right corner. On the Robot Settings page, tap Firmware Updates. On the Firmware Updates page, tap Update to begin the update process. This may take up to 30 minutes to complete.

Can I hose down my Litter-Robot? ›

There are no electronics in the globe or waste drawer, so you can soak these in a tub or hose them down. This will help prevent litter streaking. We recommend using a soft toilet brush to easily access the inside of the globe.

Why is my Litter-Robot 4 always flashing blue? ›

If your unit's light bar is flashing blue, this indicates that the waste drawer is full. Empty the waste drawer, press the Reset button, then press the Cycle button. Learn more. If your unit's light bar is blue with two flashing yellow lights, this indicates that the scale has been triggered for more than 30 minutes.

Where is the drawer full sensor on the Litter-Robot? ›

Litter-Robot 3 is equipped with infrared emitters and sensors, called the Drawer Full Indicator (or DFI), located above the waste drawer.

How often do you empty a Litter-Robot drawer? ›

How often you will need to empty the waste drawer depends on the number and size of your cats. For two average-sized cats, twice per week is typical. For a single cat, once per week is usually sufficient. You can use Litter-Robot custom-fit waste drawer liners or any 8-13-gallon (30-49L) trash bags.

How does the Litter-Robot know it's full? ›

The OmniSense system helps track litter and waste drawer levels. During each clean cycle, the DFI (drawer full indicator) sensor, positioned on the bezel, measures the level of waste in the drawer as the waste disposal opening in the globe passes over the waste drawer.
